In an era shaped by big data, artificial intelligence, and precision marketing, companies go to great lengths to collect our personal data, and the government is keen to follow suit. A prime example is the 2020 eID Digital ID card, designed to streamline the collection and use of personal information. However, while the government introduces new policies, legal frameworks remain stuck in the past. Current laws regulating the issuance of identification cards completely overlook the management of digital footprints and lack proper accountability mechanisms. This lecture will also explore data governance challenges, such as those highlighted by the National Health Insurance database case, and the ongoing progress of legal reforms.
