Swing Reeds is a social enterprise committed to promoting social innovation and sustainability. By transforming discarded burlap coffee bean sacks into stylish lifestyle products, the organization brings new life to waste materials while advocating for sustainable fashion. The workshop Handmade × Empowerment — 'Carry Love': Hand-Stitching Love for the Earth, held on the Taiwan Tech campus, will be led by Ms. HONG Ning, CEO of Swing Reeds (morning session in Chinese), and Ms. KANG Shu-Hua, founder of Swing Reeds (afternoon session in English).
The workshop will begin with an introduction to Swing Reeds’ founding mission and its approach to social practice. Participants will then take part in a hands-on activity, crafting multi-purpose tote bags from recycled coffee bean sacks provided by Louisa Coffee.
Each session will be supported by bilingual (Chinese/English) teaching assistants, who will offer guidance throughout the bag-making process.
Cooperation Partner
Swing Reeds is a micro-brand under the Spring Sprout Association for Social Service, focused on social innovation.
Since 2018, Swing Reeds has collaborated with Louisa Coffee on a burlap bag upcycling project. In 2022, the initiative expanded, inviting more coffee industry partners to join the recycling effort. The project creatively combines social and environmental responsibility by working with senior women in the community and Taiwanese designers to transform discarded coffee bean burlap bags into stylish lifestyle products. This initiative not only promotes sustainable fashion but also supports employment and social participation for senior women in local communities.
The team hopes that this cross-sector collaboration, involving NGOs, businesses, and various community organizations, will jointly advance circular economy practices and empower women. Through their handmade products, they convey the spirit and vitality of the makers, promoting sustainable public welfare in the spirit of social enterprise.
