A "Cultural Route" is more than just a path on a map; it is a dynamic concept of cultural preservation that weaves together history, collective memory, and heritage into a vibrant social network.
The Greater Wenshan area is home to numerous thematic routes—from the old Wan-Xin Railway and coal mining trails to the iconic Liu-Gong Canal. These paths tell the story of our local evolution: the development of Jingmei from Xizaikou to the Old Street, the spatial bond between Toad Hill (Chanjushan) and Treasure Hill formed by waterways, and the intricate urban pulse where the Jingmei River meets the Liu-Gong Canal.
Starting with the core concept of "Cultural Routes," this seminar focuses on the Liu-Gong Canal's pivotal role in Taipei’s urban history. We invite students to view their surroundings through a fresh lens, uncover the historical layers of our environment, and reimagine the possibilities of "Local Studies" (Place-based learning).
