Seminars [09 May 2025] Voices from Mekong
「Dancing with Nature: Reinventing Life in Thailand's Rural Landscapes」(Morning Session)
An ideal way of living by witty villagers dancing in harmony with nature? Says who you need money to live a life of beauty and abundance?
Let’s walk in the rural community of Thailand so see how villagers in the Dansai district of Loei Province live with their local wisdom. How they have creatively adapted their daily lives to achieve holistic well-being despite resource constraints by embracing nature, integrating their creativity and resilience.
There will be an interactive 20-minute workshop, which participants will create their own personal cosmological models. It fosters a deeper understanding of self, others, and nature so re-establish a meaningful connection with the natural and the society.
「Confluences: Art, Science, and Storytelling along the Mekong」(Afternoon Session)
Can a good story sparks social change and facilitates environmental sustainability?
This participatory discussion will consider the challenges of effecting social change through media, from the perspectives of artists, audiences, and stakeholders. With a specific focus on the Mekong watershed, participants will consider how impactful and engaging stories about the river can reach key audiences.
There will be some clips from some Laos films screened during the discussion to flow the conversation at the intersection of art, science and storytelling.

介紹:
Wayla is the Director of the international multidisciplinary arts festival "Low Fat Art Fes" (since 2018) and serves as Director at the Prayoon for Art Foundation. 「Confluences: Art, Science, and Storytelling along the Mekong」(Afternoon Session)
講者/單位職稱:Sean Chadwell / Director of Blue Chair Film Festival
介紹:
A native of West Virginia, Sean Chadwell has a Ph.D. in literature from Texas A&M University, and he has lived in the U.S.,India, China, and Laos. In some of these places he has worked as a university professor – teaching things like American literature, writing, and film studies – and in others he has spent his time writing, helping people to solve IT problems, and tending bar. In his spare time, he reads, makes miso, and tries to figure out what it is people are talking about when they’re talking about authenticity.
First joining the Luang Prabang Film Festival from 2014 to 2016 as a volunteer, Chadwell returned to Laos in 2019 to take on the role of executive director. Since then, he has mostly tried to keep the organization going through the pandemic, producing a virtual festival in 2020, a live festival in 2022, and expanding the work and impact of the Lao Filmmakers Fund.
