[Lecture] 100 Years of Women's Stories in the Mountain City: The Miaoli Women’s Trail

Speaker:郭楠暘KUO NAN YANG/山山藝文化實驗室創辦人、洪安慧HONG AN HUI/山山藝文化實驗室共同創辦人

Lecture Introduction :

山山藝文化實驗室 is a multi-functional hub centered around the "Values of Mountain Village Life." Our mission is two-fold:

  • Internally: We promote environmental education, conduct fieldwork, and facilitate community arts and cultural empowerment.
  • Externally: We operate over 20 types of "Satoyama" natural and cultural experience activities. We are also deeply committed to international exchange programs with our partners in Japan.

In this lecture, we will share our journey, our experiences in social entrepreneurship, and insights from our collaborations in Japan. Most importantly, we want to convey a simple message: Once you take action, change is possible.

[Cultural Bus Tour] Miaoli Women’s Trail: A Century of Women’s Legacies in the Mountain City

📍This field trip will lead faculty and students through seven major landmarks, tracing the footsteps of women through Miaoli’s history.

Highlights include:

The Lai Family Chastity Arch: A monument witnessing the traditional culture of female virtue.

Miaoli Girls’ High School of Home Economics: The birthplace of modern education for women during the Japanese colonial period.

Stone Mother Shrine: The spiritual heart of Hakka childhood traditions and beliefs.

"Yi Wei Jing Life" (A Taste of Pure Life): A hidden, healing café tucked away in the local market.

Each stop unveils the resilience and vitality of women amidst the flow of history. What makes this tour truly unique is that it is led by local women from the community. You will hear firsthand life stories from facial threading artists, retired nurses, housewives, teachers, and aromatherapists, offering a rare glimpse into the authentic lived experiences of Miaoli.

Important Notes

  1. Registration Confirmation: Successful applicants will be notified via email. For insurance purposes, international students must provide a photocopy of their ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) and send it to skyheart@mail.ntust.edu.tw.
  2. Deposit Requirement: Filling out the form does not guarantee a spot. Your registration is only complete after review and notification. A NT$500 deposit is required to secure your seat, which will be fully refunded after the event. Payment instructions will be included in the confirmation email.
  3. Preparation: Please bring your own drinking water and rain gear for the tour.
  4. Punctuality: Due to the bus schedule, please arrive on time. The bus will depart as scheduled and will not wait for latecomers.
  5. Bonus: Students returning to campus by bus can receive one meal voucher upon completing the event feedback survey!
  6. Priority: NTUST students have priority for this activity.
