2025 Tech Art Student Exhibition "You as a Unit"
We often get used to measuring ourselves against “standards”:
Are our grades good enough? Are we meeting expectations? Are our emotions reasonable?
But what if, just for today, the measure isn’t a system or someone else—
but you?
You, as a Unit
We shift the focus back to ourselves, tuning in to the subtle yet real shifts in our emotions, and giving them the space to be seen and acknowledged.
You as a Unit - Exhibition by Taiwan Tech students
With its Artist-in-Residence program, which has focused on Techno Art since 2024, the Center for General Education aims to bridge science and technonolgy with arts and creativity. From May 26 to 29, 2025, a student- exhibition showcased the outcomes of the course "Introduction to Interdisciplinary Art Practice" which was led by Professor Lea Lin in collaboration with Artists-in-Residence from the IF Plus design platform, and artists from Okome Studio and ULTRACOMBOS. Drawing inspiration from everyday life at Taiwan Tech, and through sensory exploration and critical inquiry, five interdisciplinary student teams have developed a series of techno-art works that incorporate interaction, sound, and visual media.

We often measure ourselves against a “standard”:
Are our grades good enough? Are we impressive enough? Are our emotions appropriate?
But what if, today, the unit of measurement isn’t the system or others—
but you?
"You, as a Unit." shifts the perspective back to ourself, inviting us to notice the subtle yet genuine changes in our emotions, and to offer them the space to be seen and acknowledged

Must boys always keep their hair short and neat? Should girls only wear skirts?
Perhaps we have grown used to certain looks and standards for different genders without even noticing.
This exhibition invites you to try a fun experience: swapping gender perspectives. As you mix and match outfits for the mannequin, pause to consider: where do your ideas about gender appearance come from?
Through your styling choices, you might discover what you expect or imagine about gender—and perhaps even begin to step beyond some invisible boxes.

The Lotus blooms – wishing you a wonderful day
by HSU Ting-Hsuan, LIU Xuan-Hao, LIN Ming-I, YANG Chiao-Jhen, WENG Wei-Cheng
The rise of messaging apps has given older generations a unique way to socialize.
Rain or shine, through all seasons, you’ll receive familiar images every day—
dear friend, tsia̍h-pá-buē how is it going? ”
It’s more than just pictures.
It’s a lasting and heartfelt connection—something many young people today are missing.
So slow down, admire the lotus flower, and press that button.
Feel the love and care behind every greeting image from our elders. <3333

The Echo Booth
by SHEN Chun-Ting, WU Yu-Chen, HUANG Yi-Wei, WU Ting-Yen
On campus, we pass by countless strangers each day, yet seldom truly connect. “The Echo Booth” offers a voice-first, image-revealing interaction where two participants—without knowing names or appearances—converse solely by voice. As time passes, each person’s image gradually comes into focus, culminating in a fleeting face-to-face reveal. This progression from anonymity to recognition invites moments of emotional resonance and subtle connection. We aim to create a safe, gentle space free of judgment, encouraging participants to reconsider what it means to know and connect with another person.

Muu
by YE Yen-Yen, CHENG You-Chuan, HUANG Yu-Jun, CHEN Chih-Yu (Department of Design – Industrial Design), TSAI Hao-En, LAI Szu-Yu
If you can’t say it out loud, leave it to Muu.
This interactive experience offers an “emotional outlet” where there’s no need to talk, explain, or fear judgment. Through the presence of *Muu*, intangible feelings are visualized and made tangible, allowing users to see how their emotions change each day.
