Reyner Axel Butenaers

Whenever we hear about Israel in the news, we sometimes only hear about wars, international peace agreements and other things, but I actually admire Israel, I sometimes wonder why this country surrounded by dessert can be so rich in agriculture, why they are one of the world’s smartest people, what makes them so special?

I am very grateful that NTUST, the General Education Center, Mr Omer Caspi from Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, have given me and many others the chance to join the lecture to learn and understand about why Israel is so successful, I also want to learn about Israel’s secret recipe.

From its geographic location, Israel is surrounded by three continents, people from Asia, Africa, and Europe can go their quite easily, even birds use Israel is their transit for migration. Israel has one of the highest number of scientist per capita, with so many big tech companies, investing R&D in Israel Another interesting fact about Israel include that they recycle 84.5% of their water, Mr Caspi said that every year Israel faces drought, but how did they survive? In the matter of fact Israel has put water as a serious topic, they have their own department managing the use of water, they make innovations until the most detailed object, they have an irrigation that can give the exact number of water to save water.

Again, what is Israel’s secret sauce ?, Mr Caspi today gave an analogy, if life give you lemon make a lemonade, Israel makes all this incredible innovation out of necessity. But how can a country with so many talent can successfully create all this innovation, one key word is Synergy. Israel can work in harmony not just their government but working closely together with the growth company, multinational company, academy, army, and other institutions

Israel success is possible thanks to their huge success in high tech sector. I also admire that their government is not profit oriented, their goal is to strengthen their industry, Israel innovation authority invest in new startups give them chance to develop their product and sometimes do not even get their money in return.

In conclusion a few things are the true “secret recipe” of Israel, Necessity, easy networking due to small size, Huzpah, Huzpah is an Israeli culture that is somewhat translated as being very frank and direct to people, the importance of voice either from top level official or low level official. Other factors include Flexibility, harmony, Failure is not the end culture, and also their army’s contribution to the innovations in their high tech sector.

I believe with the innovations that Israel have can help a lot of people, simply looking at what Israel offer to the world comparing it to the united nations’s sustainable development goal, Israel have successfully done number 6 clean water and sanitation, number 7 affordable and clean energy, number 9 industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and so many others. I sincerely hope that Israel can be more involved in the global stage, helping us solve many of the earth’s problem, including the increasingly lack of resources. because together ( Israel, Taiwan, and the whole world), We can make a huge difference.

This is our honor to have a speech from Israeli ambassador. From walking in to the audorium, we saw some police were pending outside. The first video shows the diversity natural environment, the economic, the tour spots and etcs. Since Israel is a mystery county for us, everything showed on the scree are fancy for us. Surprisely, they are accepting immigration from all around the world because I thought they are conservative and not welcome. What's more, they have lots of international cooperation, including agriculture, innovation, energy, defense industry ...... ,those started to develop much earlier than other countries. Some of them even planned to develop from 1950s, which we were still in war. So, that's why they have a good economicright now because most of the facilitate are well-planning for a long time. Not just only that, the technology are still on the way to developing. The slides showed countless collaborations are executiving right now, which is impressed. However, the speecher mentioned the position of Taiwan on this field is still on the way to compete and gain more achievement. As a Taiwanes, it is quite sad to hear that, and it inspire us to study more harder. Not even just harder, but also have a good strategies to put into reality in the following years. In conclusion, we only learn Israel from the text book. It's my first time to talk with Israeli in person and have a presentation about how the exactly what's happening on the land of the other side of earth. After COVID, i would really hope i have chance to visit there physically because the images can't present the entire reality. In finally, it would be a good lesson to know more about the culture we can learn from, and also i hope I can have chance to visit soon.
